Denova Oil (Pty) Ltd is situated in the far north-eastern corner of South Africa in the Limpopo Province. The beautiful Limpopo Province, known as “the gateway to Africa”, is iconic for its bushveld and the Kruger National Park. It is also known for its subtropical areas which are prime fruit and nut growing regions.
Established in 2000, the Denova brand of oils was initially targeted at the export market.
One of our aims is to support South African farmers by ensuring our ingredients are 100% of South African origin. We also help sustain emerging farmers by providing an outlet for the fruit and nuts that are not aesthetically suitable for the fresh produce market.
The name “Denova” is derived from a Latin expression used in English to mean “from the beginning or “new”.

Today, Denova Oil (Pty) Ltd is part of a large, 3rd generation agro-processing organisation. This ensures security of raw material and good growth prospects for the brand. Although still focusing on our export markets, we are expanding into the local market. Living up to our name, we decided to do a brand re-fresh for our range of Denova Culinary Oils.

HOW TO CHOOSE A HEALTHY OIL
FATTY ACID RATIO
Cooking oils all have different fatty acid profiles which is basically the breakdown between saturated, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids. Plant oils are healthier than animal fats since they contain less saturated fat. Some Plant oils are healthier than others depending on their ratio of omega 3:6:9.
REFINED OR UNREFINED
Most cooking oils are refined. Some plant-based oils are a blend of refined & unrefined oils but the healthier oils are unrefined. Refined oils contain less Polyphenols than unrefined oils. Studies have shown that Polyphenols, which occur naturally in plant-based oils, can be helpful in fighting inflammation in the body thereby helping to lower the risk of certain diseases such as heart disease, some types of cancer, and neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s. In general, unrefined oil is healthier because it contains the natural antioxidants and plant sterols as they were originally in the plant. In refined oils, these healthy plant chemicals are removed.
SMOKE POINT
Cooking at the incorrect temperature with an oil that does not have a high smoke point can be bad for one’s health. At incorrect cooking temperatures, the oil can release free radicals which are harmful. Oils have different smoke points and generally a smoke point of less than 200 degrees C should not be used for high heat cooking.
